Getting Started

What you are walking into

DONT LOOK BACK (place title [UPDATE] DON’T LOOK BACK [PRE-ALPHA]) is a Roblox survival and escape game by Manul Studio. It went live as a pre-alpha on the platform around 2026-07-12 and was still receiving updates through August 2026. Expect a day / night cadence, up to 22 players, R15 avatars, and content warnings for loud sounds, flashing lights, and jumpscares. The official place lives at the Roblox experience linked from this wiki’s home metadata — always join the Manul Studio listing, not random copies.

This getting-started page is the onboarding spine. After you finish it, deepen with Controls, Find Scraps, Objectives, and Survive the Night. Map-specific pages — The Backrooms, Pine Woods, Redwood Road — wait until you understand the shared economy.

First five minutes

  1. Spawn and orient. Note the UI. Control prompts sit in the bottom-right of the screen — open Controls if anything feels unclear.
  2. Treat daylight as a shop run. Your job is not to “win the map” instantly. Collect scraps, push objectives, sell for cash, then buy gear and weapons before night pressure peaks.
  3. Listen before you loot greedily. Audio cues matter. If the session already feels loud, lower system volume; the game intentionally uses harsh sound design.
  4. Do not wait for a code redeem UI. As of our research there are no published promo codes for this place. Ignore random Discord paste “codes” claiming free Barretts.
  5. Plan an exit path to cover. When the day clock runs down, you want a known building, tree line, or corridor — not open ground.

The day loop (core progression)

Daytime is the economic half of DONT LOOK BACK:

  • Loot scraps from the environment. Density differs by map; see Find Scraps for habits that transfer across The Backrooms, Pine Woods, and Redwood Road.
  • Complete objectives marked for the session. Objectives are how you convert exploration into structured payouts — details in Objectives.
  • Sell scraps and turn cash into tools: weapons for night, flashlight upgrades for vision, stamina-related help if you keep dying while sprinting.
  • Buy only what tonight needs. Early cash is scarce. A brighter flashlight or extra hotbar slot often saves more lives than a vanity flex.

If you die holding scraps, remember Scrap Insurance (Game Pass, 179 Robux) exists to keep scraps on death. It is optional — many survivors learn routes first, then decide. Bonus Cash 1.5x (249) accelerates the shop loop if you already understand what to buy.

Preparing for night without panic buys

Night introduces randomized threats. You either avoid or fight until dawn. Read Survive the Night before you dump every Robux into permanent guns. Permanent Game Pass weapons include:

  • Permanent Barrett M82 — 599 Robux
  • Permanent M16A4 — 399 Robux
  • Permanent Peacemaker Revolver — 249 Robux

Quality-of-life passes: +2 Hotbar Slots (129), Stamina Boost +25 (79), Stronger Flashlight 1.5x brighter/farther (49). Developer products add cash packs ($250 / $500 / $1500 / $3000), Recover Lost Items (59), and Reset Objectives (39). None of these are required to learn the pre-alpha — they compress grind.

Solo vs joining a full lobby

Lobbies can reach 22 players. That is crowded for a horror-adjacent survival title. If you are learning routes, a quieter session may teach more than a chaotic full server. When you are ready for teamwork, Solo vs Co-op covers callouts, scrap sharing etiquette, and why someone should watch angles while others sell.

Map primer (do not memorize everything yet)

  • The Backrooms — indoor mazes; landmarks matter more than sprint speed.
  • Pine Woods — trees break line of sight; sound travels differently.
  • Redwood Road — roads and shoulders change how far you see threats coming.

Skim the matching guide after two successful day–night cycles so the tips stick.

Honest pre-alpha expectations

Manul Studio is still iterating. UI labels, objective text, and threat sets can shift between updates. Visits sit around ~890k with ~19k favorites — popular enough that fake “script hubs” and fake codes will appear in search results. This wiki will not invent loadstrings, video IDs, Discord invites, or Trello boards. If an official channel appears later, we will document it; until then, treat third-party claims as unverified.

First-session checklist

  • Join the real Manul Studio place.
  • Loot → objective → sell → buy light / stamina / a workable weapon.
  • Survive one night by avoiding when unsure; fighting only with ammo and a clear lane.
  • After dawn, review what killed you: greed, bad audio volume, wrong map habits, or no flashlight.
  • Bookmark Guides Hub and return after each patch.

Finish this page, then open Controls and Find Scraps before your next queue. Getting started is less about perfection and more about surviving long enough to learn the economy.
